The Built Environment as Data

A building lifecycle management approach helps owners ensure continuity and allows project contributors to add more value at each stage.

Shared knowledge is shared power

with it we can bring down walls of time and cost to build a better world

Face new challenges

Digitize project knowledge, build value through data

With 35% of projects over budget, project owners are becoming tougher on waste. Today’s project owners are becoming more conscientious about capital efficiency. They want a design and construction process that puts as much focus on meeting the budget as it does on the lifecycle costs of the physical asset.

Providing those long-term cost-savings depends on data. The development and maintenance of a physical asset from design through fabrication to operation and maintenance can only be managed with accurate data that sets a baseline and clear trajectory for improvement. Data is at the heart of process improvement and expected at every stage of the project.

Adopt the strategy

Add greater value with data-rich projects.

The data is in: Design for Manufacture & Assembly, Lean construction, and other manufacturing-based construction processes keep projects on budget and on schedule better than traditional project delivery methods.

  • Collaborative project frameworks use shared data across intelligent models to minimize rework, reduce errors and establish a common project vision.

  • Construction teams can deliver at handoff a virtual twin rich with information about an asset’s key systems.

  • IoT-informed data establishes a baseline for performance, supports maintenance best practices and delivers tremendous new value that can strengthen partner relationships.

Data is at the heart of process improvement. Owners who adopt a building lifecycle management philosophy will turn to partners who can provide higher levels of data.

Success story

Break down the traditional construction process into a more scientific manufacturing process

Breaking down the traditional construction process into a more scientific manufacturing process, CadMakers accellerated the construction of the TallWood House at the University of British Columbia (UBC), an 18 story mass-timber building

Simulations were critical for analyzing the assembly of the full structure and all the components of the building. We found the fastest way to construct it by optimizing the full project delivery process.
