JULIEN FOURNIE COUTURE: A PIONEER IN INNOVATION FOR FASHION

After having collaborated with various luxury fashion houses for years, Julien Fournié established his own eponymous fashion house in 2009.

In November 2010, the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne admitted Julien Fournié as a “guest member” in the prestigious official calendar of Paris Haute Couture. Since then, he has been part of the select list of designers who take part in this event, the most exclusive one in the field of fashion.

Julien Fournié started collaborating with Dassault Systèmes in 2010, for the launch of the FashionLab, Dassault Systèmes technology incubator dedicated to fashion. They had a common dream: to push the limits of digital 3D for the fashion industry.

A LINE OF ACCESSORIES DESIGNED IN 3D AND MADE IN 3D PRINT

Julien Fournié worked with the FashionLab by Dassault Systèmes to design a line of accessories called “Phoenix” due to its Wing shape. These “Phoenix wings” were created with the 3D design software CATIA by Dassault Systèmes. The materials and textures have been validated digitally without building any physical prototypes. Julien Fournié was able to test a variety of colors and styles that he would never had time to test without using virtual 3D design.

“Once the 3D design was created in the software, I adapted the style to my Couture collection and I could choose the exact colors and textures I wanted on my jewelries”, says Julien Fournié.

After validating the virtual design in a 3D environment, the “Phoenix wings” were made in 3D printing. The choice of a partner outside Paris was essential for the benefit of virtual 3D. With proven quality grades supplied by 3D printing, everything came together for this project aligned with the standards of the Haute Couture.

By visualizing the result on my computer, I validated first my virtual prototypes and then started making the manufacturing in 3D printing

A FOOTWEAR COLLECTION 100% DIGITALLY CONCEIVED

Julien Fournié Footwear capsule collection was born at the crossroad of the designer’s creativity and the innovative solutions provided by Dassault Systèmes. The capsule collection consists of high heel leather sandals, colored derbies and bi-color ballerinas.

With “First Footwear” the designer assumes his own style in a collection of selected items reinterpreting four classical forms today. It was created in 3D first, using virtual universes to validate shapes and color variants.

This project goes beyond the conception of a footwear collection: it brings the emotional gap between products and consumers through the use of photo-realistic 3D content, on any devices. It demonstrates the power of using the 3D Digital from Designer to Consumer.

A COLLECTION PERFECTLY MANAGED THROUGH ON-LINE COLLABORATION

On top of 3D Design solutions, Julien Fournié uses specific solutions by Dassault Systèmes to manage its collections. Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE platform allows the designer and his studio to better manage its materials, its suppliers, its budget, its stocks and thus efficiently improve the management of its whole collection.

Fabrics or materials are visible within a click and are associated with its suppliers, with their price and quantity. In addition, the designer and his studio can preserve all datas, as a “digital archive” of the collection.

“Having a dedicated tool to manage my fabrics and my suppliers is a huge step in the dematerialization of my collection. With this software, I can access my fabrics, my stocks, my selections, my suppliers in just a few clicks, and I manage my costs, explains Julien Fournié.

From design to manufacturing datas, all information is saved in an online platform, centralized and collaborative. It is a unique source of information for my team and myself.
