What can you do to reduce CO2?

How not exploring these vehicle development solutions could cost you millions...

Pursue your CO2 reduction action plan

With the profit potential of new opportunities come the challenges of fulfilling industry requirements.   And in 2020-21, the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) and vehicle CO2 emissions should be at the top of your vehicle development priority list.  Failure to fulfill these critical new standards, in many global regions, can indeed cost you millions.

There are several strategic capabilities which will enable innovators to minimize CO2 (support lightweighting) while maximizing performance:

  • Fulfill WLTP digital certification with SIMULIA
  • Enhance aerodynamic simulation for Electric Vehicles
  • Explore Generative Design & Engineering (GDE) with CATIA

Overcome WLTP disruption with simulation and digital certification

The Worldwide Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) is the required test regime for vehicles in many global markets, and is much more stringent than its predecessor.  Emissions measured under WLTP tend to be higher, and stricter standards must be met for vehicles to be sold in required regions.

Learn more about WLTP and how SIMULIA virtual simulation solutions can help design vehicles that meet these new standards and certify your vehicles virtually.  Download this whitepaper to get started...

Certify with certainty - explore digital solutions for CO2 & WLTP

Our climate change situation is getting ever more serious, and strict regulations have now been put into place to minimize CO2 emissions in strategic regions. The Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) determines not only how to evaluate vehicle emissions and consumption but has also  expanded to include how to report expected range for electric vehicles.

With many of the world’s largest, most profitable vehicle markets implementing the WLTP test standard, manufacturers need to be able to overcome the challenges it poses. With SIMULIA simulation and digital certification, OEMs and suppliers can optimize vehicle and component designs in order to meet the more stringent limits on emissions.

The entire vehicle can be analyzed virtually with the interactions between different parts considered, giving engineers more scope to reduce emissions.  Virtual prototyping also reduces the number of physical tests required, avoiding the backlog at wind tunnel facilities and cutting development time and costs substantially. Virtual testing is allowed as a substitute for physical testing in WLTP, and SIMULIA expertise helps users to set up a WLTP compliance regime that can be quickly approved by the regulator.

Ensure optimized aerodynamic results, while reducing CO2

Designing for tomorrow’s EV technology requires new approaches, new methods, and new analyses.

Digital simulation to study and improve vehicle aerodynamics has made this revolution possible – helping engineers uncover new ways to improve efficiency, save energy, and boost range. Simulation also powers advancements in autonomous driving by evaluating shape changes to keep externally-mounted cameras and sensors clear of the dirt, dust, and water that could obstruct their views.

Conceptualize, deliver impressive new mobility options via cloud-based solutions

The California startup Canoo needed a cloud-based digital collaboration platform to facilitate the work of design and engineering experts around the world. With Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the Cloud, Canoo shares databases and project files with more than 150 collaborators worldwide. With no need to maintain a server and networking infrastructure, the company devotes more resources to competitive product development.

Concurrent development, leveraging the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, keeps Canoo on track to introduce its first vehicle to market in 2021, including design innovations enabling flexible customization of a vehicle’s configuration — from private cars to delivery trucks — all built on a common underbody.
